Four Good Eats in Central North Carolina
Hog Heaven BBQ – 2419 Guess Rd, Durham, NC
I’ve sampled about 1/2 dozen BBQ spots in North Carolina. This is the second spot that I fell in love with. It’s not an accident that Hog Heaven has a list of awards for their BBQ. I’ve visited Hog Heaven several times passing through NC. Each t
ime we get the BBQ pork sandwich and BBQ Chicken….Loaded with Hog Heaven’s own BBQ sauce! It’s it wrong for me to want to drink the sauce?
Carolina Bar-B-Q – 213 Salisbury Rd, Statesville, NC
I am by no stretch a connoisseur of BBQ. However, there are some BBQ joints that I’ve visited that stand above others. Carolina BBQ is one such place. Family owned with modest prices. BBQ pork, beef, ribs, seafood, chicken, salads, sandwiches, veggies, hush puppies and home style desserts. Don’t forget their delicious sweet iced-tee. I make sure I stop every time I’m passing through central North Carolina.
UPDATE: Sadly I have learned that after many years serving up amazing food, Carolina BBQ has closed its doors.
The Dog House – Durham, NC
Serving up Hot Dog treats with multiple locations in Durham, NC. Excellent prices and an excellent roadside treat. Check out The Doghouse website here → The Dog House website
Little Richards BBQ – Clemmons, NC
Any trip to central North Carolina gets me craving sweet Carolina BBQ practically every day! One of the best was just outside of Winston-Salem at Little Richards BBQ. Chopped BBQ plate with hickory sauce, Mac and Cheese, Fried Okra, Baked Beans, Turnip Greens, BBQ Slaw, Yams and those incredible little cornmeal delights – Hush Puppies.
The food was spectacular and the service was super friendly. 100% chance I will eat here again when I’m near Winston-Salem.
