CAPTURING AMERICA FROM AN RV
I’ve been photographing since I was very young, beginning with a 110 film camera back in the early 1980’s. Growing up, I had a camera in my hands during every family vacation. Over the years I’ve shot with a Pentax IQZoom bridge camera, a couple different Minolta 35mm SLRs, Olympus DSLR, Samsung NX200 & 500 mirrorless cameras – Currently, I’m shooting with the full-frame Pentax K1 DSLR. (Click here for my current gear) I enjoy all photography, but my favorite is landscape and night photography. A few years ago I quit my traditional office job and sold almost everything to live full-time in an RV. Photographing along the way, I also write a travel blog about RV living.
In 2015, I began workamping at Clyde Butcher’s Big Cypress Gallery. For those who are not aware. Clyde Butcher is a legendary landscape photographer who is known as ‘The Ansel Adams of The Everglades’. In 2016; I received runner-up accolades in the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Python Challenge Photo Contest. In 2017, Clyde & Niki Butcher, along with their daughter, Jackie; who runs the family business, invited me to display and sell my work in their Big Cypress Gallery. Of course I accepted this generous opportunity. I continue to display and have prints avaialble to purchase at the gallery.
In the summer of 2017 & 2018, I volunteered as a hostcamper at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center in Fort Davis, Texas. Attempting to capture the beauty of the amazing landscape of the Big Bend NP region, the nature center gave me wonderful support and encouragement as I continued to grow as a photographer. The Nature Center is now selling six of my images as postcards in their gift shop. In addition, they selected my image of the iconic ‘Mitre Peak’ to be used as the background of their mission statement displayed in the visitor center. My 2019 West Texas calendar was also sold in their gift shop along with some prints. During my summers in West Texas, I began building this website to share my stories and offer another place to see and purchase prints of my images. I hope you enjoy my site. Thank you for visiting.
