Coiled Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

Dangerous is sometimes beautiful. I was born and raised in Maine. My fear of anything venomous is rooted deep in my loins. However, I also love the colors and patterns of snakes.

So when this Western Diamondback paid me a visit recently, my first thought was, “GET MY CAMERA!” My second thought was, “I’m so grateful that snakes don’t have wings”.

I watched this rattlesnake for quite some time. He would move, stop, adjust and sit. Then adjust position again and move some more. Thankfully, each time he moved it was a little further away from my RV.   I won’t kill a venomous snake for two reasons: 1) I don’t think it’s right to kill them, 2) I’m not brave enough. I tried to get him to leave, but apparently, rattlesnakes are not sensitive to verbal hazing. I called him names to make him feel bad and he just stuck his tongue out at me. 🙂

While keeping my distance, being careful not to make him feel cornered or threatened, I continued to take photographs and video.  Eventually, he moved on and I haven’t seen him again. I’m happy, I got pics and vids…I don’t need him to visit again. I’m ok with drinking my morning coffee alone.
