Marsh Trail in the Ten Thousand Islands NWR is a popular place for birders and to watch a sunset. There is an observation deck on the trail that looks out over the mangroves and is a busy place in the evening. On this evening, I wasn’t planning on going on any trails to photograph. It was a simple ride into Naples for dinner and groceries. However, sometimes the mother nature creates a display that you have to capture. So in my flipflops, I headed out on Marsh Trail. The trail is paved part way, but level the entire length. Very easy, even in flipflops. I walked past the observation deck and found this isolated mangrove just off the water’s edge. I negotiated some brush along the banks and did my best to anchor my tripod in the water. I took a few shots adjusting my exposure time with each. (This shot was a 30-second exposure.) After a few minutes, I started to feel bites on my feet. Apparently, I was standing in the home of some ants. Each shot after that was, set-up the shot and use my timer and get the hell out away from the next. I came home with a few great shots and a few ant bites. Well worth it! Lesson learned, always have your camera and a pair of shoes in your vehicle. I think there are two pairs in my vehicle right now.
